Apples ‚Multipeer Connectivity Framework‘ vernetzt neu
Diese Woche erschien FireChat (kostenlos; App-Store-Link), ein Messenger basierend auf dem Multipeer Connectivity Framework (PDF-Link), das Apple mit iOS 7 einführte (und beispielsweise selbst für AirDrop nutzt). Die App ist relativ unwichtig (und auch nicht 'Patient Zero'), die Technologie allerdings, die ein Mesh-Netzwerk aufbaut, das über mehrere Teilnehmer seine Reichweite ausbaut und auch einen (Datei-)Austausch ohne Internet-Verbindung ermöglicht, ist hochspannend.
In reality the framework whatever technology it has available – whether it be bluetooth, or wifi, either using an infrastructure network, or ad-hoc networking if the devices don't share the same network. This is truly brilliant – the user just gets to select which of the surrounding devices it wishes to connect to and the framework will handle all the rest. It is even capable of using a node as a router between 2 nodes which can't see each other in a mesh-network manner.
Und plötzlich finden sich auch das iPad WiFi oder ein iPod touch wieder eingebunden.
Ubiquitous wireless mesh networking could erase many of the places and situations where connectivity isn’t possible, or connectivity over the Internet isn’t desirable.
