„How Siri found its voice“

The text-to-speech industry is extremely competitive, and highly secretive. Even though it’s universally believed that Nuance created the voice of Apple’s talking personal digital assistant, Siri, Ward, and Vazquez coyly change the subject when asked.

Apples vertragliche Vereinbarung mit Nuance gehört (für mich) zu den interessantesten Industriegeheimnissen. In iOS 7 legt die Qualität der männlichen und weiblichen Stimmen noch einmal hörbar zu.

Perhaps Siri’s biggest improvement is in its voice: Gone is the somewhat mechanical-sounding assistant of the iPhone 4S; in its place are two new voices—one male, one female—to help you organize your day. They have much more musical responses than the previous voice, and sentences sound clearer and more human, thanks to a new processing algorithm happening behind the scenes.
