„Apple to Close iPhone Security Hole That Police Use to Crack Devices“
Apple said it was planning an iPhone software update that would effectively disable the phone’s charging and data port — the opening where users plug in headphones, power cables and adapters — an hour after the phone is locked. While a phone can still be charged, a person would first need to enter the phone’s password to transfer data to or from the device using the port.
Ausschlaggebend ist – wie so oft – die ausgelieferte Standardeinstellung (➝ Einstellungen ➝ Face ID & Code). Im Moment sind die Betas von iOS 11.4.1 und iOS 12 so konfiguriert, dass sie den USB-Port nach einer Stunde deaktivieren – die richtige Standardeinstellung also.
Apple hätte mit Sicherheit (!) gerne komplett auf eine Einstellung verzichtet, die der Nutzer manuell ändern kann. „Entsperre das iPhone, damit USB-Zubehör eine Verbindung herstellen kann, wenn das iPhone vor mehr als einer Stunde gesperrt wurde.” klingt ohne entsprechendes Hintergrundwissen wie eine Nichtsaussage. Doch um den Menüpunkt kam Apple diesmal nicht herum: Zubehör wie Mikrofone oder Tastaturen sollen am USB-Lightning-Anschluss natürlich auch über eine Stunden hinaus Daten übermitteln.
