This is not one of those tech acquisitions where the company is bought to be shut down. Unsplash will continue to operate as a standalone brand and division of Getty Images. The entire Unsplash team will be staying and building Unsplash in the direction we have been. The main difference now is we have access to the resources and experience of Getty Images to help accelerate our plans to create the world’s most useful visual asset library.
Man kann sich über die Lohntüte fürs Team freuen und gleichzeitig den Verlust von einem bemerkenswerten Bilderportal bedauern. Unsplash verspricht zwar „keine Lizenzänderungen”, verkaufte aber an eine Bildagentur mit langer Geschichte von Rechtsstreitigkeiten und Abmahnungen – unpassend für „the world’s most generous community of photographers” und seine „over 2 million free high-resolution images”.
Ein nettes Hintergrundbild fürs eigene Gerät zieht weiterhin ein iOS-Kurzbefehl; ansonsten mache ich jedoch einen großen Bogen um die Fotos aus dem „freien” Bestand.
