If you’re looking closely enough, a quick search on Amazon for, say, “iPhone screen protector” or “youth soccer socks” will only turn up paid product listings carrying a “Sponsored” label at the top of the results before scrolling. In the first nine months of 2022, Amazon’s ad revenue surpassed the money the company makes from Prime, Prime Video, and its other audio and e-book subscriptions combined. Along with Amazon Web Services, advertising has emerged as one of the company’s top two profit engines.

Ich vergesse regelmäßig, das bestimmte Produkte in Supermärkten nicht zufällig auf Augenhöhe oder in prominenten Werbeaufstellern stehen. Und trotzdem bremst das klein gedruckte „Gesponsort“ mittlerweile meinen schnellen Amazon-Einkauf aus. Das Vertrauen in die Suchergebnisse ist komplett verloren; jede Empfehlung fühlt sich überprüfungsbedürftig an.

Es ist eine Gefahr, die auch Apples App Store droht, wenn er weiter zum Apple Ad Store mutiert.
