iPhanpy schlägt gleichzeitig im AltStore PAL und App Store auf
Phanpy ist „Mastodon im Web“ und durchweg fantastisch; iPhanpy verpackt diese Webapp nun als native iOS-Anwendung. Die Besonderheit dabei: Dieser Build stand zuerst über den AltStore PAL zum Download.

AltStore has been around for a while as a way to sideload apps into an iPhone, but now it’s a proper alternative marketplace for iOS in the EU and Japan! Meaning that it’s the only way to install apps that Apple won’t allow you to.
iPhanpy is available on both the AltStore and the Apple App Store, but I highly recommend checking out the AltStore version if you’re able, so you can also check out the other apps in there.
Alternative App-Marktplätze wie der AltStore PAL sind a) erfolgreich von Apple ausgebremst worden, erzeugten b) aber auch keinerlei Nutzernachfrage. Beides kann gleichzeitig wahr sein.
Die konkreten AltStore-PAL-Nutzerzahlen kenne ich nicht, aber ich sehe das Angebot, oder vielmehr sehe ich kein Angebot. iPhanpy ist hier eine der wenigen erwähnenswerten Ausnahmen, erscheint jedoch zeitgleich auch in Apples Download-Store.
Ob das mit Direktinstallationen einzelner Apps aus dem Web für Telefon-Software anders gewesen wäre, wissen wir nicht. Und da sich die EU auf das Konzept von „Alternativen App-Marktplätzen“ für Gatekeeper erst einmal eingelassen hat, werden wir das auf absehbare Zeit auch nicht ausprobieren.
