Gedanken zum SDK. Mhhh.

Steve Jobs versprach letztes Jahr ein SDK. Im Februar. Heute schreiben wir den 23.02. und bis auf eine grandios im Boden versickerte Fake-Geschichte hat es noch keine fundierten Stimmen zum Entwicklungs-Kit des iPhones gegeben.

Nun macht heute eine Meldung die BlogRunde, dass sich das Software Development Kit verspäten soll. Dies schreibt Arik Hesseldahl für die BusinessWeek. Natürlich ohne Nennung der entsprechenden Quellen. Die Geschichte gewinnt jedoch an Glaubwürdigkeit, da Hesseldahl schonmal nicht ganz falsch lag, als er im letzten Oktober EIN (bislang nicht angekündigtes) iPhone-SDK für Januar verlauten ließ.

Derzeit wird von 1-3 Wochen Verzögerung für das iPhone-SDK gesprochen. Eigentlich eine marginal Verschiebung? Könnte man denken, wenn man die Tragweite solch eines Projektes unterschätzt.

Seit dem ersten Tag fiebern Entwickler darum, auf die Plattform iPhone aufspringen zu dürfen. Auf ein mobiles Gerät im Hosentaschenformat. Das ist nicht Gang und Gebe. Symbian und Windows Mobile-Programme sind nie in spektakulärer Weise vor den großen Betriebssystem-Bruder gesprungen und haben mit innovativen Ansätzen eine Idee initiiert. Ich verallgemeinere stark, aber welche Applikationen schwirren euch noch im Hinterkopf, die sich aus ‚dieser Zeit‘ unzerstörbar eingebrannt haben? Warum wirbt Microsoft erst jetzt mit einer Kampagne, die sagt ‚they say you can’t take it with you – they are so wrong.

Mobile Plattformen werden durch das iPhone plötzlich attraktiv. Minimalistisch-banale ‚Wir verkleiden uns als Piraten‘-Applikationen erringen Popularität.

Letztes Jahr empfanden die Entwickler zur Macworld 07 die ‚Besinnung‘ auf Web-Applikationen als einen Fußtritt. Ich sehe weiterhin großes Potenzial Datenbanken und ‚Schmarrn‘ ins Web auszulagern, derzeit ist jedoch die Entwicklung noch lange nicht so weit vorangeschritten, das man auf native Desktop-Apps verzichten könnte. Ob bewusst oder nicht, ist Apple weit vor unserer Zeit.

Doch wichtig sind die Entwickler, die mitziehen müssen. Begeisterte Entwickler, die auf eine mobile Plattform wollen. An den Gitterstäben rütteln um ‚rein‘ zu dürfen. Das ist Potenzial, auf das Apple und jede andere Plattform dieser Richtung angewiesen ist. Deshalb sprechen wir hier nicht um läppische 1-3 Wochen Verzögerung, wir sprechen über die Begeisterung derjenigen, die uns großartige Programme bescheren.

Also, kommt das SDK jetzt später oder nicht? Keine Ahnung, aber die Qualität sollte stimmen. Noch ein halbes Jahr ‚auf Kredit‘ wird’s wohl nicht, zumindest wohlwollend, geben.

Portable Lautsprecher. Ich bin nicht unbedingt die Zielgruppe, schaue mir verschiedenste Modelle jedoch gerne an. In diesem Fall war der britische Hersteller ‚Digital Lifestyle Outfitters‘ so nett, mir Ihre ‚Portable Speakers for iPhone‘ zukommen zu lassen, so dass ich mal wieder ein exklusives Hands-on-Review präsentieren darf.

Das Konzept ist interessant. Zwei getrennte Stereo-Lautsprecher, die trotzdem kompakt in die Handtasche passen. Ermöglicht wird dies durch eine entsprechende Konstruktion, welche die drei einzelnen Teile zu einem ovalen Ei verbindet.

Aber der Reihe nach. Das Lautsprecherset besteht aus zwei Lautsprechern und einem Mittelteil, das für die Elektronik zuständig ist. Wahlweise darf das Set mit vier AAA-Baterien oder Netzteil betrieben werden. Die Lautsprecher verbinden sich mit jeweils einem Klinkenstecker zur zentralen Einheit. Darauf ist ein kleines Plastikgerüst vorgesehen, das euer iPhone je nach Belieben hochkant oder im Querformat beheimatet.

Die Verarbeitung ist – bedenkt man den relativ günstigen Verkaufspreis von $50 – erwartungsgemäß dürftig. Die Lautsprecher liegen luftig-leicht in der Hand, der Mittelteil ist mit Gummi umzogen und die Plastikgerüst von wackeliger Bauweise. Doch die Soundqualität leidet darunter nur peripher und ist ausreichend um kleine Räume bis zu 15 Quadratmetern zu beschallen. Natürlich ist das Set nicht als Soundsystem für Daheim gedacht, liefert für den Schreibtisch oder den Ausflug in den Park eine gute Qualität.

Auf Qualität wurde auch hinsichtlich der Interferenzen mit dem GSM-Chip Acht gegeben. Ihr kennt das Ton-Signal, wenn euer Mobilfunktelefon in den Lautsprechern dieses bibi bi bibibi macht? Genau, das wird fast rückstandsfrei herausgefiltert und ist für ein Lautsprecherset dieser Preiskategorie recht bemerkenswert. Je nach Anwendungsfall könnt ihr so eine kleine Freisprecheinrichtung oder Miniatur-Heimkino installieren.

Fazit:

Ich persönlich bin kein Freund von Lautsprechern im Park und tendiere zu einfachen Kopfhörern, bewerte jedoch das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis hinsichtlich der Kompaktheit durch die ovale Ei-Form sowie die Filterung der Interferenzen als gelungen.
