In einem US-Apple-Store habe ich mir in der vorletzten Woche eine iPhone-(Klemm‑)Halterung gekauft, anschließend darüber im Podcast geschwärmt (hier der YouTube-Link), nur um dann herauszufinden, dass der sogenannte ‚Manfrotto TwistGrip‘ nirgends im Netz hierzulande zu bestellen ist.

Mein Dank gilt Frank, der mir vorhin einen Link in den deutschen Apple-Online-Store geschickt hat, unter dem sich die Universal-Halterung fürs iPhone (49,95 Euro) – und andere Smartphones – bestellen lässt.

Mehr als zwölf Minuten, die wir darüber bereits im Podcast sprachen, kann ich hier auch nicht beisteuern. Es sei lediglich noch einmal unterstrichen: 50 Euro sind eher kostspielig für ein solches Accessoire, aber die Qualität stimmt (und wer solches Zubehör regelmäßig verwendet, wird dies sehr schätzen).

Booking.com have updated their association file – it’s now only 4 KB – this hasn’t fixed the issue but should prevent new users that install from hitting the same problem. Even reinstalling the app and rebooting doesn’t fix it – the swcd (shared web credentials daemon) crashes once it’s got corrupt data in it.

Short version: there is currently no fix for this – we’re waiting on Apple to resolve. A reboot sometimes temporarily fixes the issue, and turning off JavaScript gets Google search results working again. If you haven’t got the problem – don’t install the Booking.com app (read on for more info).

‚Customer-satisfaction‘, stimmt.

But the key thing is that after 8 years, the iPhone range really now starts at $400, not $600 or more. With the 6 and 6 Plus Apple addressed screen-size as a reason to buy premium Android and their results are clear in Samsung’s financials. New it’s going after price and the mid-range. $400 is still nowhere near the $150 or so that decent Android phones start at (let alone the entry price of $50 or less for one with very low specs), but this is still going to shake things up.

Aber machen wir uns nichts vor: Nur weil das FBI kein Rückgrat zeigt (und bereit gewesen wäre eine Niederlage unter größtem Medieninteresse einzustecken), und deshalb versucht seinen Rückzieher im Medientrubel einer Apple-Keynote zu versenken, ist der Kampf um Verschlüsselung nicht aufgehoben, sondern lediglich aufgeschoben.

Tim Cook, im Frühling 2014 gegenüber klimaskeptischen Investoren:
